I am thrilled to announce that on August 14th, thanks in part to our advocacy, Council Members Helen Rosenthal and Ben Kallos introduced legislation requiring DOE to come up with an implementation plan so that every child in New York City has access to #scratchcooked meals! This initiative was included in Speaker Corey Johnson's Growing Food Equity Plan, which was announced on August 2nd.
We will be attending the hearing in the Fall (and will update the group on when it is).
You can comment on this legislation and write testimony in support and submit that to the City Council. I will send email addresses to submit written testimony in the next month or so when the hearing date comes up.
Look out for a letter writing campaign for kids to write their council members and the Mayor to support this law!
